Guilford Immediate Care is a facility just as it sounds. They see patients with no appointment and provide them with immediate care. We see cases for most every minor illness such as strep throat, H. pylori, ingrown toenails and everything in between. On a typical day I will go in, say, "Good morning," to everyone and look at the cases we have in the office. They show up on the computer and it tells their name, age, chief complaint and their status in the office (A&R, Exam, Lab, C/O, etc.) After that I will just hang around the nurses station, sometimes stock things in the lab and just help out wherever needed. Once the receptionist brings back a patient chart, I will go with the nurse and review the case. We then go get the patient and I take their vitals while the nurse asks them questions such as, "What are you here for?" and "Are you allergic to any medications?" Sometimes, I will get the chart and take the patient back myself it just depends which nurses are there that day. I run many tests such as urine analysis, mono, strep and flu. The things that I get to see and do change daily and I am always excited for the unpredictability that is a doctor's office!
